Both volumes matching lightly flecked blue cloth, gilt titling, both volumes have 3 white/gilt flower heads to front board, blind-stamped stems. Foxing to endpapers of both volumes, light foxing to contents otherwise. Volume 1 has two edge bump to fore-edge of rear board and to top edge of same, the latter has pressed slightly into the adjacent few pages. Signed dedication to front endpaper of volume 1 reads: 'C.F. Kohler with kind regards from WH Chesson 29 November 1899'. A very handsome 2 volume set. WH Chesson worked as a reader for T Fisher Unwin and as the first professional reader of a Joseph Conrad manuscript, is often creditted with his discovery. Extremely scarce.

All volumes blue buckram over white buckram boards, gilt decoration to front panel. Boards grubby in places, some rubbing to edges, mainly to head/tail of spine of volume V, sunning to spine of volume VI; general browning/foxing to contents, a few marks, slight hinge weakening in places but overall a tight set. Occasional annotation, mainly pencil, to rear endpaper of volume 1 plus occasionally to text, and occasionally in red pencil. Overall a Good tight set with the important Corrigenda. All 6 volumes bear the bookplate of Admiral David Norris to the front pastedown. (Norris was in command of the Persian Gulf and British Naval Forces on the Caspian between 1918-19, and he was also in charge of the British Naval Mission to Persia in 1920-21. The attractive bookplate shows a map of the Caspian Sea and North Persia). All Volumes and Corrigenda published between 1899 and 1931, and represent Volumes XIII, XVII, XXX, XXXVII, XLI and LXVI in the series of publications by the Navy Records Society.
