Introduced gradually after WW2, the Maltese Dodge-shape buses were based on truck chassis lengthened and bodied by as many as 20 different coachbuilders. Replacing their petrol engines with diesel ones ensured their service lives would be long extended. Most of these lorries were ex-War Department which had passed to individuals and then sold for conversion to buses. There were 25 chassis imported in 1945 which were also a source for building. About 10 of these vehicles were converted to forward control (Bulldog). Comprehensive monograph.
